Now running in its 6th(!) year, DesignPhiladelphia is a series of events that encompass studio tours, lectures, exhibitions, workshops, book signings and (of course) parties that highlight just about every damned kind of design you can think of… This year’s events will take place in partnership with a shiny new host, University of the Arts, and its super-accessible downtown location on Broad Street. Make time to support your local creative culture and join the 150+ DesignPhiladelphia events happening this year from October 7th-17th. Certainly sure to be a good time in every little way.

Take a jaunt across the street for larger items like furniture, chandeliers and the quite possibly the most comprehensive collection of gaudy Christmas fare I never want to see again.

Architecture in Flim: The Big Lebowski

TONIGHT! The Center for Architecture presents an ongoing, monthly film series that explores ideas and themes related to architecture and its creators. The Big Lebowski features a number of buildings from 60′s-era Los Angeles, including this house designed by John Lautner, a student/disciple of Frank Lloyd Wright. As tonight’s film suggests, the series is meant as more entertainment than a direct treatise of the industry (so don’t expect the likes of My Architect or Powers of Ten necessarily). Act quick with an RSVP for tonight’s 7pm show as seats are limited.

On the heels of several articles showcasing just some of Philly’s many offerings, I’ve taken great care to curate (and map!) some of my most choice listings for the design-inspired traveler. They follow something of an itinerary and put visitors on the right path to discover our many architectural offerings, happenstance hideaways and beaucoup boutiques along the way… All told, over 50 locally-owned, retail business are listed with dozens more restaurants and cafes offered for discriminating guests visiting our fair locale.
